Ingredients

  • 4 cups water
  • 3 green tea bags
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 2 strips lemon peel
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 4 ripe but firm pears, peeled
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • fresh mint leaves (optional garnish)
  • Greek yogurt or whipped cream (optional garnish)
  • chopped pistachios (optional garnish)
  • lemon zest (optional garnish)

Equipment

  • medium saucepan
  • vegetable peeler
  • small knife
  • wooden spoon
  • serving bowls or plates

Method

  1. Peel the pears and lightly brush them with lemon juice to prevent browning.
  2. In a medium saucepan, bring water to a gentle simmer. Add green tea bags, honey, cinnamon stick, lemon peel, and vanilla extract.
  3. Steep the tea for 5 minutes, then remove the tea bags.
  4. Add the pears to the saucepan and reduce the heat to low.
  5. Simmer gently for 20–30 minutes, turning the pears occasionally, until tender when pierced with a knife.
  6. Remove the pears and let the poaching liquid simmer for another 5–10 minutes to slightly reduce.
  7. Spoon the warm syrup over the pears and serve warm or chilled. Garnish as desired.

Notes

Choose firm pears like Bosc or Anjou to help them hold their shape while poaching. Avoid boiling the liquid rapidly to prevent mushy texture. Rotate pears occasionally for even flavor and color. Chill overnight for a deeper tea infusion. Use high-quality green tea for the cleanest and most delicate flavor.
