Ingredients

  • 1 cup fresh strawberries, hulled
  • 1 tbsp honey or maple syrup
  • 1 tbsp water
  • 1 tsp ceremonial or culinary grade matcha powder
  • 2 tbsp hot water
  • 1 cup milk of choice
  • 1 cup ice cubes
  • sliced strawberries (optional topping)
  • matcha dusting (optional topping)
  • vanilla cold foam (optional topping)

Equipment

  • blender
  • tall glass
  • small bowl
  • matcha whisk or frother
  • spoon

Method

  1. Add strawberries, honey, and water to a blender. Blend until smooth.
  2. Spoon the strawberry puree into the bottom of a tall glass.
  3. Fill the glass with ice cubes.
  4. Pour the milk slowly over the ice.
  5. In a small bowl, whisk the matcha powder with hot water until smooth and frothy.
  6. Slowly pour the prepared matcha over the milk to create layered sections.
  7. Stir before drinking or enjoy the layered look first.
  8. Garnish with fresh strawberry slices if desired.

Notes

Use ripe strawberries for the sweetest flavor and sift the matcha powder before whisking to avoid clumps. Pour the matcha slowly over the back of a spoon for clean layers. Oat milk creates an extra creamy texture, while coconut milk adds a tropical twist. The strawberry puree can be prepared up to 3 days ahead and stored in the refrigerator.
