Ingredients

  • 1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 2 cups milk of choice
  • 1 tbsp maple syrup or honey
  • 1 tsp ground turmeric
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground ginger
  • pinch of black pepper
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • pinch of salt
  • sliced banana (optional topping)
  • chopped almonds or walnuts (optional topping)
  • coconut flakes (optional topping)
  • chia seeds (optional topping)
  • extra cinnamon (optional topping)
  • fresh berries (optional topping)

Equipment

  • medium saucepan
  • wooden spoon
  • measuring cups and spoons
  • serving bowls
  • stovetop

Method

  1. Add oats, milk, turmeric, cinnamon, ginger, black pepper, and salt to a medium saucepan.
  2. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer over medium heat.
  3. Cook for 5–7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the oats are soft and creamy.
  4. Stir in maple syrup and vanilla extract.
  5. Remove from heat and let the oatmeal sit for 1 minute to thicken slightly.
  6. Spoon into bowls and add your favorite toppings.
  7. Serve warm and enjoy immediately.

Notes

Stir the oatmeal frequently while cooking to prevent sticking and create a creamy texture. Coconut milk makes the oatmeal especially rich and flavorful. Add extra milk for a thinner consistency if desired. Sweeten gradually and customize with toppings like fruit, nuts, chia seeds, or granola.
