Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup chocolate chips (optional)
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)

Equipment

  • mixing bowls
  • whisk
  • spatula
  • 8x8-inch baking pan
  • parchment paper

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line an 8x8-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together melted butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until smooth.
  3. Add the eggs and vanilla extract, then mix until fully combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, stir together flour, cocoa powder, and salt.
  5. Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined.
  6. Stir in chocolate chips or nuts if using.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
  8. Bake for 20–25 minutes or until the center is set but still slightly soft. Let cool before slicing.

Notes

Do not overmix the batter to keep brownies tender. Slightly underbake for a fudgier texture. Use high-quality cocoa powder for best flavor. Let brownies cool completely before slicing. Swap butter with coconut oil for dairy-free, or use gluten-free flour if needed.
